The 2018 European Open Championships KanJam were fantastic!

Marvellous weather, superb atmosphere and exciting matches

Saturday 30 June saw the seventh edition of the European Open KanJam Championships at Klarenbeek, the Netherlands. On the playing fields of Klarenbeek Sports Club, almost 40 teams battled it out for the coveted European Championship title, which would mean instant qualification for the KanJam World Championships in America. The tournament will be remembered for its great atmosphere and high standard of sportsmanship. After an initial knockout stage, round of sixteen, quarter finals and semi-finals, it was the Rembrandt Masters team that went away with the first prize..

Keenly fought match

All eyes were on Team Battum, the 2017 European Champions. Before the tournament got underway, they admitted they had spotted some fearsome rivals. A number of competing teams saw it as their mission to beat Team Battum, so the matches were keenly fought! The bright sun and a lively summer breeze meant there were some incredibly unpredictable matches.

After the knockout stage and the round of sixteen, the eight strongest teams remained to produce some spectacular quarter finals. Seven2Win beat FC Brievenbus 3-1, De Meiden beat Team Battum 3-0, Domcity Jammers beat One Hit Wonder 3-2 and the Rembrandt Masters dismissed Disc-utabel with a 3-1 victory. People were already anticipating a gripping final, and they weren’t disappointed!

Teachers vs. pupils

This year we were witnesses to a quite remarkable final! With tense spectators on both sides of the playing field, Rembrandt Masters took on De Meiden. It was therefore going to be a match between the teachers and the pupils. Rembrandt Masters certainly demonstrated some of KanJam’s finer intricacies to De Meiden. It is, however, worth noting that De Meiden played an extremely controlled tournament, which gave them a result they can be proud of: a highly deserved second place. In the end their teachers proved too good for them and De Meiden lost the final round 4-0. What a performance though – these ladies gave it all they had! As for the Rembrandt Masters, they assured themselves of a ticket to America with a qualification for the KanJam World Championships where they will represent KanJam Europe.

We would like to thank all competitors for a superb tournament. As organisers, we enjoyed your enthusiasm, sportsmanship and all of the exciting matches. See you next year! Finally, we would like to wish Rembrandt Masters all the best in the World Championships!
